The Luxury Experience of The Sukhothai Hotel - Bangkok
Bangkok is amazing. It's one on my favourite cities: the food, the friendly people, the shopping, the sunny weather in February. One thing I also love is the great variety of luxury 5 star hotels that can be had (through Agoda.com, Hotels.com or Booking.com) for about $100USD per night (or less!). So if there is time to splash out on a nice hotel, Bangkok is the place - and I chose The Sukhothai Bangkok!
The Grounds
The grounds of The Sukhothai are stunning! They feature expansive lawns, reflecting pools lined with Chedis, stately stone Thai statues, and serene lotus ponds. From the moment you enter, you immediately experience tranquility.

The Sukhothai is tucked away in the Embassy/Business district of Bangkok (Sathorn Road) and has a large resort feel. It's just a short walk up to Silom Road where nightlife and markets abound, but once you're on the grounds of The Sukhothai you are miles away from the bustle of Bangkok!
The Pool
When staying in Bangkok, you're going to want to have a pool! Nothing is better after a long morning of sightseeing and shopping, that coming back to your hotel for a refreshing dip in the pool, a nap under an umbrella, and perhaps a poolside meal.
And the Sukhothai is known for their amazing pool! Tree lined, with comfortable loungers and ample umbrellas to keep you nicely shaded.

The first thing I did after my long flight, was head straight to the pool, have a dip, and order Thai green curry with rice along with a refreshing Singha Beer. Heaven!

Now we have lots of Thai restaurants back home (Toronto) but there is one little detail that they never quite get right: the pea eggplants. Most restaurants abroad substitute them with peas (and they arrive in the curry rather deflated.) But Thai pea eggplants are crisp and balance the bright flavours of the curry. Pop! A pea eggplant! I'm in back in Bangkok!

The poolside menu ranges from burgers to traditional Thai fare. Do explore! The Pad Thai, for instance was a visual treat!

Update: The pool area is currently undergoing renovations but will be finished by October 2017.
The Rooms
The rooms at The Sukhothai are elegant and leans heavily on Thai inspired design: Teak furnishing and floors, Thai inspired wall sconces, black granite bathroom counters, floors and shower tiles. They are the embodiment of chic.

Some reviewers comment that some rooms look a little weary, but I didn't get that impression. I loved their timeless charm and the housekeeping staff not only kept the room spotless, they were extremely friendly and attentive!
The Service
Once thing that really makes a great hotel is the service and The Sukhothai Bangkok is second to none! Check-in was smooth and friendly. Doormen never failed to open the doors and I came and left the hotel. The pool staff was always ready to bring you a drink at the slightest raise of a hand.

There are several excellent restaurants on the grounds of The Sukhothai. Apart from several pool-side meals, I didn't get a chance to try them, but particularly famous is their famous Sunday brunch at Colonade restaurant. East meets west at this brunch with buffet selections ranging from Asian specialties to classic Italian favourites. A spaghetti carbonara station, large displays of seafood on ice (king crap, razor clams, lobster), a foie gras station, Italian antipasti, sushi tables...you get the picture. Did I mention it was all one set price?!
The Verdict
Luxurious. Tranquil. Amazing. I managed to use a discount hotel website and book this gem for approximately 50% off the rack rate. My deal was approximate $100USD per night. I'll write a post on how I come by these types of deals soon!
